MIKA Token Plunges 99% as Private Key Leak Revives Questions About Celebrity Coins

MIKA Crypto Plunges 99% After Influencer’s Private Key Leak Raises Celebrity Token Concerns

Crypto influencer Mika (@mikadontlouz) triggered a major controversy after allegedly sharing her token’s developer wallet private key instead of its contract address. The newly launched MIKA cryptocurrency crashed by approximately 99% within minutes as a large volume of tokens was sold.

Mika, who has around 126,000 followers, posted a message encouraging people to “free yourselves” alongside an 87-character string. Traders quickly identified the string as what appeared to be a private key rather than the intended Solana contract address.

Roughly 30 minutes later, Mika introduced another token under the Free Mika name. However, the second launch also attracted criticism after reports indicated that one wallet controlled approximately half of its supply. The relaunched token subsequently lost around 84% of its peak value.

The incident has left traders debating whether the collapse resulted from an accidental mistake, a poorly executed launch, or something more deliberate. It has also renewed questions about celebrity-backed cryptocurrencies following the September collapse of Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP token.

MIKA Token Suffers Two Crashes Within Hours

The first Free Mika (MIKA) token launched on pump.fun at approximately 1:36 p.m. and reached a market capitalization of $1.6 million within three minutes.

At 1:40 p.m., Mika published the message “free yourselves knights / its time to eat. no cabal,” followed by the string that traders identified as the developer wallet’s private key. A typical Solana contract address is 44 characters long, making the longer string a potential warning sign.

According to transaction data reported by Odaily, the creator’s address transferred approximately 500.44 million MIKA tokens, representing half of the initial supply, to another wallet. That wallet sold around 500.83 million tokens through PumpSwap just seven seconds later.

The subsequent trades occurred at prices approximately 99% below earlier levels. By 1:53 p.m., the token’s market capitalization had fallen to around $85,500.

A second Free Mika token appeared at 2:08 p.m. Mika shared its contract address a minute later, this time apparently providing the correct information. Data from GeckoTerminal showed the relaunch briefly reaching a market capitalization of approximately $1.5 million before falling below $300,000 within an hour.

The second token’s market capitalization later stood at roughly $240,000, with approximately $41,700 in liquidity and $1.65 million in reported 24-hour trading volume.

The controversy also inspired a wave of copycat tokens. DexScreener listed more than a dozen similarly named projects, including Free Mika King, Jail Mika, and Mute Mika.

Private Key Exposure Fuels Speculation

The circumstances surrounding the incident quickly divided the cryptocurrency community.

One narrative suggested Mika had been the victim of a wallet drain. A widely shared post claimed she had lost $40,000 and was discussing the incident during an X Spaces session while in tears.

However, some traders questioned that account.

Solana trader fabiano.sol, who has approximately 88,000 followers, suggested the incident could have been staged. He shared a screenshot showing a System Program account containing 80 bytes of data, consistent with a durable nonce account. Depending on how it is configured, this arrangement can complicate attempts to move funds using an exposed private key.

The trader also criticized the second token’s distribution, pointing to a developer wallet that reportedly held approximately 50% of the supply.

It remains unclear whether an outsider used the exposed key or whether an existing holder carried out the large sale. The available transaction information does not conclusively establish who was responsible.

There is also no definitive proof that Mika deliberately orchestrated the collapse. An accidental clipboard error followed by a rushed relaunch could explain some of the events.

Nevertheless, the combination of the apparent private key disclosure, the disputed $40,000 loss, questions about the wallet configuration, and the concentrated token supply has prompted traders to scrutinize the launches more closely.

Celebrity Crypto Tokens Continue to Struggle

MIKA’s collapse follows a series of high-profile celebrity token launches that experienced severe price declines after attracting substantial initial attention.

Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP token launched on Base on September 9 and surged to $190.81 within two minutes. Its liquidity pool reportedly held only around $48,000 before the token fell to $3.70 within an hour.

Biden attributed the episode to a market maker and denied that his team had sold the token. Bubblemaps subsequently reported that approximately 80% of LAPTOP traders ended up underwater.

Other celebrity-linked tokens have followed similar trajectories:

  • TRUMP: Launched in January 2025, the token reached $73.43 on January 19 before falling to approximately $1.67.
  • MELANIA: The token peaked at $13.05 on launch day before declining to around $0.08.
  • LIBRA: The token’s market capitalization surpassed $4 billion after Argentine President Javier Milei promoted it. It subsequently lost more than 90% of its value within hours, and Milei deleted his post.
  • YZY: Kanye West’s token climbed to $2.95 in August 2025 before falling to approximately $0.29.
  • HAWK: Hailey Welch’s token dropped more than 90% within hours of its December 2024 launch.
  • MOTHER: Iggy Azalea’s token declined approximately 99.9% from its peak.

Although each project has its own circumstances, the broader pattern remains similar. Celebrity recognition attracts attention and speculative buyers, while concentrated ownership and limited liquidity can leave the market vulnerable to sudden sell-offs.

When early holders begin taking profits, prices can collapse rapidly. Investors who enter during the initial surge often bear the largest losses, while the public figures associated with the projects can move on to other ventures.

Are Celebrity Tokens Worth Buying?

The continued trading activity surrounding celebrity cryptocurrencies indicates that speculative demand has not disappeared. However, repeated price collapses raise questions about the long-term value these tokens offer.

Most celebrity-backed coins lack established products, recurring cash flows, or clear economic models. Their valuations frequently depend on social media attention, the popularity of their creators, and expectations that other traders will continue buying.

That makes them particularly vulnerable when public interest fades or large holders sell their positions.

Blockchain analytics tools can help investors identify potential warning signs. Holder-distribution platforms such as Bubblemaps can reveal concentrated ownership, while on-chain transaction analysis can expose unusual transfers and selling activity.

However, greater transparency does not necessarily prevent speculation. Despite the sharp decline in the second MIKA token, its reported 24-hour trading volume reached approximately $1.65 million.

MIKA’s story may eventually fade as traders turn to the next viral token, but the episode illustrates a persistent problem in the celebrity memecoin market: popularity alone does not guarantee a sustainable project or a fair distribution of tokens.

For investors, examining liquidity, wallet concentration, and transaction history before buying may be more valuable than following a celebrity endorsement. When a token launches amid promises of quick profits, understanding who controls the supply can help reveal who stands to benefit—and who could be left with the losses.
