India’s Biggest Crypto Exchange Limits Futures Trading After Binance Breach

CoinDCX, India’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has temporarily stopped traders from opening new futures positions after Binance’s security breach affected a major source of global trading liquidity. The company said the precautionary measure does not affect customer assets, deposits or withdrawals.

The restrictions reflect the wider impact of Binance’s security incident, which has begun affecting other cryptocurrency platforms connected to its liquidity infrastructure.

CoinDCX announced on X shortly before publication that its futures market had switched to “reduce-only” mode due to recent developments involving a global liquidity provider. Although the exchange did not identify the provider in its initial announcement, a company spokesperson confirmed to CoinDesk that it was Binance.

Under the new arrangement, traders cannot establish fresh positions or increase their existing long and short exposures. However, they can continue adjusting margin on open positions, while previously placed orders remain eligible for execution.

CoinDCX confirmed that deposits and withdrawals are functioning normally and reassured customers that their funds remain secure.

The restriction applies exclusively to futures trading and is described as temporary. However, the exchange has yet to specify when it will lift the limitations and restore regular trading activity.

The development demonstrates how security or operational problems at a major liquidity provider can spread across connected cryptocurrency platforms. Exchanges that depend on external venues for liquidity may need to reduce trading exposure even when their own infrastructure and customer balances remain unaffected.

CoinDCX’s Futures Trading Depends on Binance Liquidity

CoinDCX sources a substantial portion of its futures market liquidity from major international cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance.

Its institutional documentation outlines systems that receive Binance order-book data for USDT-margined perpetual contracts and route trading activity through the connected infrastructure.

Despite these connections, CoinDCX operates at a considerably smaller scale than global derivatives platforms such as Binance and Deribit.

According to CoinGecko, the Indian exchange recorded just over $1 million in combined spot and futures trading volume during the previous 24 hours.

Binance Security Breach Triggers Wider Market Disruption

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, reported a major security incident on October 29–30, with the estimated impact reaching approximately $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency assets.

The exchange’s preliminary investigation indicated that an attacker may have gained access through a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer. The device allegedly provided entry to a service container that was subsequently used to initiate unauthorized withdrawals.

Binance said investigators had found no evidence that wallet private keys were compromised.
