Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings to Over 8,888 BTC Following $117.5 Million Purchase
Japanese firm Metaplanet announced on Monday that it has acquired an additional 1,088 bitcoin (BTC), increasing its total holdings to more than 8,888 BTC—now valued at over $930 million.
The latest purchase, disclosed by the company, cost approximately 16.885 billion Japanese yen (around $117.5 million), with an average price of about 15.5 million yen ($108,051) per bitcoin.
Since adopting an official Bitcoin treasury policy in April 2024, Metaplanet has pursued an aggressive accumulation strategy, catapulting it to become Asia’s leading corporate BTC holder and ranking within the top ten worldwide.
So far in 2025, Metaplanet has added 7,126 BTC to its portfolio and is on track to reach its year-end goal of 10,000 BTC. This recent purchase follows the company’s issuance of $50 million in zero-interest bonds last week, a move designed to fund further BTC acquisitions without diluting shareholder equity.
Metaplanet also reported a year-to-date BTC yield of 66.3%, with gains totaling 2,684 BTC, equivalent to roughly 40.5 billion yen.
As of Monday’s Asian trading hours, Bitcoin was steady above $105,000, showing little change over the past day.
