Standard Chartered PLC is a British multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered in London, England. The company operates an extensive network of over 1,200 branches and outlets, including subsidiaries, associates, and joint ventures, across more than 70 countries, employing approximately 87,000 people. It provides a wide range of services, including consumer, corporate, institutional banking, and treasury operations. While based in the UK, the bank does not offer retail banking services there, with about 90% of its profits generated from markets in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
The bank is publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), where it is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. As of April 4, 2017, it had a market capitalization of approximately £24.4 billion, ranking it as the 28th-largest company listed on the LSE. Additionally, Standard Chartered has secondary listings on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange of India, and the OTC Markets Group Pink. Its largest shareholder is Temasek Holdings, an investment company owned by the Government of Singapore.
