Bitcoin Struggles Under $80,000 While AI Investment Gains Momentum

Bitcoin continues to trade under pressure despite easing interest rate expectations, falling oil prices, and gains across stock markets. At the same time, artificial intelligence is attracting renewed investor interest, with major companies preparing to direct billions of dollars toward the sector.

SoFi Crypto Business Crosses 500,000 Accounts as Shares Jump 11%

SoFi Technologies added more than 500,000 cryptocurrency accounts within a year of restoring digital asset trading, according to its third-quarter earnings report published Tuesday.

The company reported 503,070 crypto accounts as of Sept. 30, following the relaunch of SoFi Crypto in late 2025. The platform allows users to buy, sell, and hold cryptocurrencies alongside conventional banking and investment services.

Crypto trading generated $161.6 million in transaction revenue during the quarter. However, related expenses reached approximately $160 million, leaving the business with only $1.63 million in net crypto transaction revenue.

For the first nine months of 2026, SoFi recorded $3.67 million in net revenue from cryptocurrency transactions.

The company’s overall performance was stronger, with quarterly revenue rising 44% year over year to $1.39 billion. Following the earnings release, SoFi shares climbed 11% in premarket trading.

Galaxy Digital Shares Gain After Strong Quarterly Results

Galaxy Digital, led by Mike Novogratz, exceeded third-quarter earnings expectations, supported in part by Bitcoin’s price gains during the period.

The company reported $419 million in treasury and corporate profit, compared with a $42 million loss in the previous quarter.

Galaxy also approved a new $200 million share repurchase program after completing its earlier authorization. It has bought back approximately 9.8 million shares so far this year.

Novogratz said the company’s progress across its two businesses was helping diversify earnings and strengthen its position to capitalize on future growth opportunities.

Meanwhile, Galaxy confirmed that the second phase of its Helios I data center project is fully financed, under construction, and progressing as planned. Discussions with prospective tenants for an additional 830 megawatts of capacity at Helios II are ongoing, with the company reporting increasingly favorable market conditions.

Galaxy shares advanced 4.5% in premarket trading but remained more than 30% lower over the previous month.

Venture Capitalist Warns Bitcoin Could Revisit $57,000

Investor Jason Calacanis sparked debate after predicting that Bitcoin could fall to $57,000 within the next 12 months.

In a post on X, Calacanis argued that investors have access to other opportunities capable of generating greater economic value. He questioned Bitcoin’s usefulness beyond its role as a store of value and urged investors to consider moving capital into artificial intelligence.

Calacanis later expressed support for Bittensor (TAO), citing its focus on expanding AI infrastructure. However, the token has also faced significant selling pressure, falling 25% over the past month and 38% over the previous year.

His latest bearish comments prompted criticism from users who pointed to earlier occasions when he predicted Bitcoin’s decline at substantially lower prices.

Bitcoin Falls Below $80,000 as AI Investment Gains Momentum

Bitcoin slipped to around $79,750 early Tuesday, down 0.6% over 24 hours ahead of the U.S. stock market opening. Ether and Solana also declined, while XRP rose 1% following Ripple’s final approval to establish a U.S. national trust bank.

The move left Bitcoin down 2.5% over the previous seven days, despite lower expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes and a pullback in oil prices from earlier monthly highs.

Stock markets have shown greater strength. The Nasdaq gained more than 1% on Monday, while futures advanced another 0.4% on Tuesday.

Investor attention is increasingly returning to artificial intelligence as companies announce major financing plans. Meta disclosed a $95 billion capital raise, while Anthropic filed for an initial public offering, with reports indicating it could target a raise of up to $100 billion.

Combined, the two potential funding efforts represent close to $200 billion in capital aimed at AI-related opportunities, illustrating the scale of competition for investment funds between AI and cryptocurrency markets.

Markets are also awaiting the Federal Reserve’s policy decision on Wednesday. Expectations currently point to the central bank keeping interest rates unchanged, leaving investors focused on its guidance for the months ahead.
