Bitcoin Traders Eye This Critical Chart for the Next Market Move

Oil prices are nearing a decisive technical level that could influence inflation, borrowing costs and the performance of risk assets, including Bitcoin and technology stocks. West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the primary U.S. crude oil benchmark, is showing signs of a potential breakout after months of narrowing price movements.

Bitcoin investors and traders across financial markets are watching the setup closely because a sharp move in crude could reshape market expectations in the weeks ahead.

The daily WTI chart shows a narrowing formation resembling a funnel turned on its side. After experiencing broad price swings in March and April, crude has entered a tighter range, with lower highs and progressively shallower declines converging near $102.

Technical analysts refer to this structure as a coil or pennant. As the trading range contracts, buying and selling pressure becomes increasingly compressed, raising the possibility of a strong move once prices escape the pattern. Naomi Blohm, senior market advisor at agricultural advisory firm Total Farm Marketing, described the setup on X as a market building toward a potential breakout.

However, the formation does not reveal whether prices will move higher or lower. Traders are therefore preparing for two possible scenarios.

Oil Could Break Higher or Reverse Lower

A move above the pattern’s upper boundary near $105.50 would signal a potential upward breakout. If that level is cleared, traders could look toward the March and April peaks between $117 and $119.

Such a rally could have significant consequences for Bitcoin and other risk assets. Rising crude prices can increase inflationary pressure, push government bond yields higher and reinforce expectations that interest rates will remain elevated for an extended period.

Higher borrowing costs and tighter financial conditions often reduce investor appetite for speculative investments, including cryptocurrencies and technology stocks. With oil prices already up around 80% this year, another sustained advance could intensify concerns about inflation.

Bitcoin is frequently marketed as digital gold, but its price has often tracked equity markets more closely. According to CoinDesk’s analysis of TradingView data, Bitcoin’s 30-day correlation with the Nasdaq 100 stands at 0.64, indicating a notable relationship between their price movements.

The relationship between Bitcoin and crude oil has also changed since the Iran war began. Bitcoin’s 30-day correlation with oil has fallen to minus 0.47, compared with a positive 0.18 shortly before the conflict started.

This inverse relationship suggests that a further oil rally could create additional challenges for Bitcoin, particularly if higher energy costs weigh on stocks and push bond yields upward.

The bearish alternative would emerge if WTI breaks below the lower end of its trading formation. The key level to monitor in that scenario is approximately $93.

A decline toward that threshold could ease inflation concerns and reduce pressure on bond yields. Lower oil prices could also improve expectations for future monetary policy, potentially supporting equities and cryptocurrencies.

Why Bitcoin Traders Are Watching Crude Oil

Neither direction is guaranteed, but the next breakout in WTI could provide an important signal for investors deciding how to position themselves across risk markets.

Iran, a significant oil exporter that has been at war with the United States since March, is reportedly preparing for the possibility of substantially higher crude prices. The country’s budget planners are said to be considering an oil price of $130 per barrel for the coming year.

For Bitcoin traders, the implications are clear: crude oil’s next major move could help shape broader market sentiment. A rally toward $117–$119 could increase inflationary concerns and weigh on risk assets, while a retreat toward $93 could provide relief for stocks and cryptocurrencies.

The direction of the breakout remains uncertain, making WTI’s narrowing price pattern an important chart to monitor as markets assess the outlook for inflation, interest rates and speculative investments.
