Sony Expands Soneium Push With New Gaming and Anime Incubation Program

Sony has introduced a new incubation initiative through Soneium aimed at developing blockchain-based entertainment products across PlayStation gaming, anime, and digital collectibles. The move could create additional opportunities for onchain gaming and fan engagement, although Sony has not confirmed any plans to integrate cryptocurrency directly into PlayStation.

The Sony Onchain Entertainment Incubation Program opened for applications on October 29 and will continue accepting submissions through December 2026. The initiative invites startups and creators to develop entertainment-focused products using Soneium, Sony’s blockchain network.

Selected participants may gain access to technical infrastructure, marketing resources, business development assistance, community-building support, and potential investment opportunities. Sony said the program is designed to help projects move beyond experimental technology and create entertainment products with real value for users.

Sony’s Soneium Initiative Expands Across Gaming, Anime, and Digital Collectibles

The incubation program spans multiple entertainment industries, extending beyond conventional blockchain gaming. Eligible areas include console, PC, and mobile games, as well as anime, manga, music, movies, esports, immersive experiences, and creator-led communities.

Sony is particularly interested in projects that use blockchain technology to transform how audiences engage with entertainment intellectual property. Developers could explore digital collectibles, fan communities, merchandise, and interactive experiences that give audiences a more active role in creator-driven ecosystems.

Applicants must establish a clear connection between entertainment content, intellectual property, and blockchain technology. Projects must also incorporate Soneium, although developers can pursue multichain strategies provided the network is meaningfully integrated.

Sony has previously supported blockchain projects through two incubation initiatives. Soneium Spark selected 32 projects from more than 1,700 applications in 2024, while Soneium For All chose 11 projects from over 250 submissions in 2025.

The latest program builds on these efforts with a stronger emphasis on entertainment-focused applications. Sony aims to support products that combine content, digital assets, and communities to encourage long-term participation.

PlayStation Crypto Speculation Grows, but No Direct Integration Is Confirmed

Sony’s latest announcement has renewed interest in the company’s blockchain strategy, particularly its potential relationship with PlayStation. The program specifically identifies PlayStation games as a target category and encourages independent creators and startups to develop entertainment products compatible with Soneium.

Anime also features prominently in the initiative, reflecting the strong engagement surrounding popular franchises and character-based intellectual property. Developers may use the program to explore blockchain-powered collectibles and new ways for fans to interact with entertainment brands.

However, the announcement does not confirm that cryptocurrency functionality will become part of PlayStation games. Instead, Sony is inviting independent teams to build entertainment applications using its blockchain infrastructure.

The selection process is expected to run from November 2026 through March 2027, with successful applicants receiving support on a rolling basis. Participation does not guarantee funding, as potential investments will be considered through a separate evaluation process.

Overall, Sony’s new initiative represents another step toward expanding Soneium’s entertainment ecosystem. By supporting developers working across gaming, anime, and digital collectibles, the company hopes to encourage blockchain applications that offer practical benefits to creators and audiences alike.
