The disruption briefly brought transaction processing to a standstill on one of Ethereum’s largest layer-2 networks.
Coinbase-backed Base resumed block production on Thursday after an outage lasting roughly two hours halted the network.
In a status update, the Base team said the chain is now functioning again, with internal nodes syncing as expected. The root cause remains under investigation, and node operators were advised to restart their systems to regain full synchronization.
Issues first surfaced at 16:03 UTC, when Base flagged mainnet block production as “unhealthy.” By 16:52 UTC, the team reported that it had identified the problem and was working through multiple fixes.
The incident temporarily froze activity across the network, though Base has yet to disclose what triggered the invalid block or whether it stemmed from a software bug or a consensus-related issue.
The outage follows a previous disruption in August 2025.
The team said it will continue monitoring the network and provide further updates as more details emerge.
