Vitalik Buterin Steals the Spotlight at Devcon While Bitmine Expands Its Ethereum Holdings

Vitalik Buterin’s Green Cloak Steals the Show at Devcon as Bitmine Buys 8,573 More ETH

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin surprised attendees at Devcon 8 with an unusual stage appearance, wearing a green cloak and a smiling mask. The playful costume became an unexpected highlight of the Mumbai conference, while Bitmine Immersion Technologies continued its aggressive Ethereum accumulation, adding another 8,573 ETH to its treasury.

Buterin’s outfit appeared more appropriate for a fantasy adventure than a major blockchain developer gathering. His appearance brought a humorous moment to an event otherwise focused on Ethereum’s technical progress, network development, and long-term challenges.

At the same time, Bitmine is working toward an ambitious target of accumulating 5% of Ethereum’s total supply.

According to its latest disclosure, the company held 6,060,506 ETH as of November 1. Based on an ETH price of $2,261, the treasury was worth approximately $13.7 billion, representing close to 4.9% of the cryptocurrency’s supply.

Bitmine’s ETH Purchases Continue During Devcon 8

Devcon 8 runs from November 3 through November 6 in Mumbai, bringing together developers, researchers, and other members of the Ethereum ecosystem for discussions and workshops.

Although the conference is centered on technical developments and the network’s future, Buterin’s green cloak and smiling mask created a memorable moment outside the usual developer presentations.

His costume highlighted the more lighthearted side of Ethereum’s community, which continues to debate important issues such as scalability, adoption, and ETH’s market performance.

Bitmine’s strategy has been considerably more focused on accumulating assets.

The company purchased 8,573 ETH during the latest reported week, representing approximately $19.4 million at the disclosed valuation. Its combined cryptocurrency holdings, cash, and other investments reached $14.5 billion.

Beyond Ethereum, its portfolio included 216 BTC and $498 million in cash and marketable securities.

Bitmine has also committed a significant share of its ETH treasury to staking. Its staked holdings reached 5.23 million ETH, equivalent to roughly 86% of its overall Ethereum position.

The company estimates that this amount could generate approximately $358 million in annualized staking rewards. If all its ETH holdings were eventually staked, potential annualized rewards could increase to around $415 million.

This approach allows Bitmine to pursue two objectives simultaneously: expanding its Ethereum reserves and earning income through the network’s proof-of-stake mechanism.

ETH Price Outlook: Is a Return to $5,000 Possible?

Bitmine’s continued accumulation adds to the bullish narrative surrounding Ethereum, although its purchases alone cannot determine the cryptocurrency’s next price direction.

Large-scale treasury acquisitions can create additional demand, while staking places a substantial amount of ETH outside immediate trading circulation. With nearly 5% of Ethereum’s supply under its control, Bitmine has become an important corporate holder of the asset.

The company’s staking strategy also provides a financial incentive to maintain its Ethereum exposure. By participating in network security, Bitmine can generate rewards while retaining its long-term position.

Bitmine Chairman Tom Lee has expressed confidence in Ethereum’s potential recovery, suggesting that ETH could return to its previous all-time high near $4,954 before the end of 2026. He has also pointed to $6,000 as a possible year-end price target.

From the reference price of $2,261, Ethereum would need to gain approximately 119% to revisit $4,954. Reaching $6,000 would require an advance of roughly 165%.

However, the technical picture remains challenging. The $2,315 region has emerged as an important resistance area, linked to a key moving-average level in recent market analysis.

A sustained move above this level could improve the outlook for a recovery. Failure to break through, however, could leave ETH vulnerable to continued weakness.

Ethereum ETF Outflows Complicate the Bullish Outlook

Despite Bitmine’s substantial purchases, Ethereum has not yet demonstrated a convincing market reversal.

US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded significant outflows during October, highlighting continued weakness in institutional investment demand. This suggests that corporate treasury accumulation has not been enough to reverse broader selling pressure.

The contrast between Bitmine’s growing holdings and weaker ETF flows presents a mixed picture for Ethereum investors.

On one side, the company’s purchases and substantial staking position indicate confidence in the network’s long-term prospects. On the other, continued ETF withdrawals and weak price action remain obstacles to a sustained recovery.

For ETH to approach the $5,000 or $6,000 targets, stronger demand and an improvement in market conditions will likely be necessary.

Buterin’s unusual outfit may have become one of Devcon 8’s most entertaining talking points, but Bitmine’s latest acquisition offers a more substantial development for Ethereum’s corporate treasury narrative.

With its holdings approaching the 5% supply milestone, the company continues to make a significant bet on Ethereum’s future. Whether that strategy helps support a broader price rally will depend on institutional demand, ETF activity, and ETH’s ability to overcome key technical resistance.
