NEAR and Ondo Finance have launched a tokenized stock and ETF offering through near.com, initially giving eligible users access to 20 assets, including Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, SPY and QQQ.
The service allows eligible participants to deposit stablecoins or other supported cryptocurrencies from more than 30 networks. NEAR Intents provides the cross-chain infrastructure behind the integration, with the broader objective of distributing Ondo’s tokenized securities across wallets, applications and DeFi platforms.
The initial launch is focused more on distribution than on offering the largest possible asset selection. Ondo’s wider tokenized stock platform already features more than 100 stocks and ETFs, based on the company’s documentation. By comparison, near.com initially provides access to just 20 of those assets.
Near.com is the primary interface for users who want to open accounts and trade the available tokenized securities. NEAR Intents serves a different function, acting as the routing layer intended to make those assets available beyond the NEAR interface.
This separation is important to understanding the integration. Near.com handles the user-facing trading experience, while NEAR Intents is designed to provide the cross-chain infrastructure that could allow other wallets, applications and DeFi protocols to offer the same tokenized assets.
Ondo says its broader platform contains more than 100 tokenized stocks and ETFs. The selection covers individual companies, major indexes such as SPY and QQQ, and fixed-income ETFs including TLT, TIP and AGG.
The 20 assets available through NEAR represent only a portion of that larger offering. Ondo’s full application remains the reference point for users seeking its complete tokenized stock and ETF catalog.
How the NEAR-Ondo Stock System Works
Purchases are settled through USDon, which Ondo describes as a stablecoin backed 1:1 by a U.S. dollar held in an Ondo Stocks brokerage account.
Users who fund their accounts with another supported stablecoin can have it automatically exchanged for USDon before purchasing a tokenized stock. When the position is redeemed, the process works in reverse.
Ondo says this structure is intended to make buying and selling tokenized securities an instant process rather than one dependent on traditional settlement periods.
The process starts when an eligible near.com user deposits supported cryptocurrency or stablecoins from one of more than 30 connected networks. The user can then swap the funds directly for an available tokenized stock or ETF in a single transaction.
By combining funding, cross-chain conversion and the asset purchase into one interface, the system removes several steps that would otherwise be required when moving assets between networks and platforms.
However, the initial offering remains limited to 20 assets. The launch information names several securities but does not provide a complete list of all 20 in the material available.
As a result, users seeking a specific stock or ETF should verify whether it is currently supported on near.com rather than assume that every asset in Ondo’s broader 100-plus catalog is available.
NEAR Intents Is the Bigger Distribution Play
The potentially broader element of the launch is NEAR Intents, which is designed to function as a cross-chain distribution mechanism.
The technology could allow Ondo’s tokenized stocks and ETFs to move beyond near.com and become accessible through external wallets, applications and DeFi protocols connected to the system.
In that sense, the initial 20-asset lineup represents an entry point rather than necessarily the final scope of the integration.
Ondo currently limits its tokenized securities to stocks and funds listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ. Its documentation indicates that the platform could eventually expand to securities listed on exchanges in other countries.
The approach is also part of a wider race to build distribution networks for tokenized assets. Robinhood, for instance, is developing its own tokenized-stock infrastructure, although its model differs from the NEAR-Ondo setup.
NEAR Crypto Tokenized Stocks Remain Restricted in the U.S.
The new service is not available to U.S. persons.
Ondo states that its tokenized stock products are offered to eligible individuals and organizations outside the United States and other restricted jurisdictions. Certain regions are excluded entirely, depending on Ondo’s eligibility requirements.
These products provide tokenized exposure to securities listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ rather than representing conventional brokerage-held shares.
The regulatory treatment of tokenized securities remains different across jurisdictions, while the broader U.S. framework for tokenized equities is still developing.
Consequently, the NEAR-Ondo launch does not provide U.S.-based traders with access to the products or alter the existing geographic restrictions.
