Mt. Gox Dumps $956M in BTC During Market Downturn

Mt. Gox Moves $950M in Bitcoin Amid BTC Downtrend

Mt. Gox, the long-defunct Bitcoin exchange, transferred approximately 10,608 BTC, worth about $950 million, to a new wallet on Monday, according to blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence.

The bulk of the transfer—around 10,422 BTC—was sent to an unidentified address labeled “1ANkD…ojwyt,” while roughly 185.5 BTC returned to Mt. Gox’s hot wallet. Historically, such large movements have often preceded repayments to creditors from the 2014 hack.

Although it’s not confirmed whether this transfer is related to payouts, the timing coincides with Bitcoin’s slide below $90,000, raising market speculation that the movement could lead to potential sell-offs if funds are disbursed.

Mt. Gox lost roughly 850,000 BTC in 2014, forcing bankruptcy. Repayment efforts restarted last year, with a 2026 deadline for claims. The exchange still holds around 34,689 BTC, worth nearly $3.1 billion, across multiple wallets, according to Arkham Intelligence.
