LEASH v2 Upgrade Nears Completion After Shiba Inu Team Clears Final Step

Shiba Inu Developers Approve LEASH v2 Migration
10/9/2025

Shiba Inu developers announced Tuesday that the long-delayed LEASH v2 migration will commence in the coming days, following security approval from Hexens for the new token and its migration contract.

The approval resolves months of uncertainty caused by a hidden flaw in the original LEASH code. While originally marketed as a fixed-supply token, the v1 contract included a rebase mechanism and a “hidden-in-plain-sight” control path, which allowed pre-authorized proxies to alter supply. Earlier this year, exploitation of the flaw increased token supply by 20%, undermining confidence in its scarcity.

LEASH v2 is designed to permanently close this loophole. The full token supply has already been minted into a multisignature wallet, and the contract cannot mint new tokens. During migration, v1 tokens will be locked or burned, and v2 tokens will be distributed proportionally to holders.

The token’s redesign uses OpenZeppelin ERC-20 libraries for simplicity and auditability, with advanced features like privacy layers planned for future wrappers.

SHIB prices fell 1% over the past 24 hours, reflecting a broadly flat crypto market.
