Metaplanet Surpasses El Salvador by Acquiring $126M Worth of Bitcoin.

Metaplanet Purchases $126 Million in Bitcoin, Overtakes El Salvador’s Holdings

Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed investment firm, revealed on Monday that it has acquired an additional 1,241 Bitcoin (BTC), bringing its total holdings to 6,796 BTC, valued at over $706 million at current market prices.

The latest purchase, worth 18.4 billion yen (approximately $126 million), marks the firm’s most significant acquisition since it launched its Bitcoin Treasury Operations in April 2024. With this purchase, Metaplanet now holds more Bitcoin than El Salvador, which has 6,174 BTC in its reserves, according to data from the Bitcoin Office in the country.

Metaplanet’s latest acquisition was made at an average price of around $102,119 per Bitcoin, solidifying its position as one of the most aggressive institutional buyers in the space.

The firm’s proprietary performance indicator, BTC Yield—which tracks Bitcoin accumulation per share outstanding—showed a 38% increase for the second quarter, following impressive growth of 95.6% in Q1 2025 and 309.8% in Q4 2024. This metric, along with other indicators like BTC Gain and BTC Yen Gain, helps assess shareholder value through non-dilutive Bitcoin growth.

Metaplanet’s ultimate goal is to reach 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025. The firm’s treasury strategy mirrors the high-conviction accumulation approach pioneered by Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy, which holds over 555,000 BTC.

As of Monday, Metaplanet remains the largest publicly traded Bitcoin holder in Asia and ranks 11th globally.
