XRP Struggles for Momentum as Three October 3 Catalysts Fail to Lift Price

XRP is hovering near $1.50 as Evernorth prepares for its expected Nasdaq debut under the XRPN ticker and two conditional XRP Ledger upgrades are scheduled for the October 8-9 window. Despite the upcoming catalysts, buyers have yet to overcome resistance near $1.55.

So far, XRP’s price action suggests traders have not aggressively priced in the upcoming events. A confirmed breakout above $1.55 could shift attention toward $1.63, while another rejection would keep $1.45 as the main downside level.

Armada Acquisition Corp. II shareholders approved the proposed combination with Evernorth on September 30. The deal is expected to close October 7, with the newly combined company set to begin trading on Nasdaq under XRPN on October 8.

Following the closing, Evernorth expects to hold 473 million XRP and receive approximately $300 million in gross proceeds. The company has presented the Nasdaq listing as a regulated and transparent way for investors to gain exposure to XRP. However, purchasing XRPN shares is not the same as buying XRP directly in the spot market.

That distinction could determine how much impact the listing has on XRP itself. XRPN could draw new investment and increase Evernorth’s visibility without generating a comparable increase in spot XRP purchases. The effect on token demand will depend partly on whether Evernorth’s treasury operations and partnerships result in actual XRP buying.

The transaction is a key component of Evernorth’s XRP treasury strategy, but shareholder approval alone does not establish how the listing will affect spot-market flows.

Meanwhile, two XRP Ledger amendments could activate around the same period if validators maintain the required level of support. PermissionDelegationV1_1 could go live around October 8, allowing accounts to delegate specific permissions to other accounts for functions such as payments or customer approvals without transferring complete control of the account’s keys.

BatchV1_1 could potentially follow on October 9. It would allow users to bundle up to eight transactions together, including all-or-nothing exchanges. The feature could make delivery-versus-payment transactions involving tokenized assets easier to execute and increase the ledger’s usefulness for institutional applications.

The amendments could improve transaction management and permission controls for financial institutions using the XRP Ledger. However, their activation does not guarantee broad adoption by banks or asset managers, nor does it automatically create sustained demand for XRP.

Validator participation and the wider XRPL amendment process will remain important as the market evaluates whether these upgrades translate into meaningful usage.

Large XRP holders have shown relatively little change in their balances over the past week. Binance XRP open interest was around $516.6 million, higher than the lows recorded in 2026 but still far below the more than $1.3 billion seen around October 2025. CryptoQuant analyst R3N described current positioning as more cautious and less dependent on leverage.

The relatively low open interest leaves room for traders to add leverage if the upcoming catalysts attract new interest. But it also suggests derivatives traders have not positioned aggressively ahead of the October dates. For now, the market has yet to establish a clear connection between stronger XRPL infrastructure and additional XRP demand. XRPN is an equity investment, while a software upgrade does not directly represent token inflows.

Technically, $1.55 remains the level XRP needs to clear. A sustained break above that resistance could bring $1.63 into focus.

Failure to break through the $1.53-$1.55 area could send XRP back toward $1.45. The near-term setup therefore remains centered on these key levels, with the upcoming catalysts offering potential triggers but no guarantee of a particular price direction.

The October events ultimately represent a test of market demand rather than an automatic bullish catalyst. A decisive move above $1.55 followed by continued buying would suggest traders are responding to the developments. Until that happens, XRP’s subdued price action and relatively cautious derivatives positioning indicate that the anticipated institutional access and XRPL upgrades have yet to translate into clear additional demand for the token.
