Crypto Week Ahead: Major Events to Watch in the Week Beginning July 20

The biggest crypto-related developments will come from Washington, D.C., where lawmakers and regulators are continuing to shape the industry’s future. A House Financial Services subcommittee is scheduled to hold a hearing focused on oversight of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) will also close its public comment period on July 24 for proposed rules linked to the GENIUS Act. The framework would require stablecoin issuers to follow expanded anti-money laundering, counterterrorism financing, and sanctions compliance standards.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is accepting feedback until July 27 on proposals involving round-the-clock trading and perpetual-style bitcoin futures contracts. The consultation follows the regulator’s approval three months ago of the first regulated bitcoin perpetual product on Kalshi. While the GENIUS Act reached its one-year milestone this month, regulators are still working on the detailed rules needed for implementation.
On the macroeconomic front, investor attention will turn to the European Central Bank’s (ECB) interest-rate decision on Thursday. Markets currently expect policymakers to leave rates unchanged.
