Robinhood Markets Inc., commonly known as Robinhood, is a U.S.-based financial services company headquartered in Menlo Park, California. The company operates the Robinhood mobile app, which allows users to invest in publicly traded companies and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) listed on U.S. stock exchanges without incurring commission fees. Robinhood generates revenue through interest earned on customer cash balances, margin lending, and by selling order flow to high-frequency trading firms.
Following a fundraising round in April 2017, Robinhood was valued at $1.3 billion. In 2018, the company raised additional funds, increasing its valuation to $5.6 billion, according to reports from The Wall Street Journal.
