Metaplanet Acquires Additional 1,004 BTC, Boosting Total Holdings to More Than $800 Million

Tokyo-based investment firm Metaplanet has added 1,004 bitcoin (BTC) to its holdings, spending roughly $104.3 million on the latest purchase, according to a disclosure on Monday.

This acquisition increases Metaplanet’s total bitcoin stash to 7,800 BTC. The average price paid for this batch was $103,873 per bitcoin.

Overall, Metaplanet’s bitcoin portfolio—accumulated at an average cost of $91,300 per BTC—is now valued at over $806 million based on current market prices. The company aims to expand its holdings to 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.

Metaplanet began building its bitcoin treasury in April 2024 and has followed a strategy similar to firms like MicroStrategy (MSTR), focusing on long-term accumulation.

The latest purchase arrives as bitcoin trades near its all-time highs, hovering around $103,343 at the time of writing. The broader cryptocurrency market has seen a recent rally amid improving macroeconomic conditions.

To fund these acquisitions, Metaplanet has raised capital through multiple bond issuances, including its most recent 15th ordinary bond sale, valued at $15 million.
