Grayscale Unveils Story Trust to Capture Growth in Blockchain-Based Intellectual Property
Grayscale Investments has launched the Grayscale Story Trust, giving accredited investors exposure to $IP, the native token of Story Protocol, which aims to bring intellectual property into the blockchain era.
Story Protocol is designed to transform how digital rights are defined, managed, and monetized. It allows creators to embed licensing terms, royalty distribution, and attribution rules directly into NFTs and other smart contract-based assets — automating IP enforcement across use cases ranging from music and media to AI training datasets and biometric data.
The newly launched trust will focus solely on $IP, which has gained over 100% in the past month and is currently trading around $5.94. According to the Story Foundation, the protocol is already gaining traction with over 1.7 million transactions and 200,000+ monthly users. Applications span from creator-owned likeness tagging in video to real-time data streams powering autonomous systems like surgical robots and driverless vehicles.
One such initiative, Poseidon, is helping Story Protocol integrate real-world data into machine intelligence applications, further widening its potential use cases across industries.
The launch is part of Grayscale’s broader push to diversify beyond traditional crypto assets and into emerging sectors such as digital identity and on-chain intellectual property. While the Story Trust is available for daily subscription to accredited investors, like other Grayscale vehicles, it may or may not become tradable on secondary markets.
Grayscale is best known for pioneering institutional access to crypto with its Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), but the firm has increasingly expanded into thematic products as blockchain technology matures. The Story Trust marks another step in that direction, targeting the intersection of AI, digital rights, and programmable ownership — a market that some analysts estimate could exceed $80 trillion in value.
