Metaplanet Adds 780 Bitcoin, Boosts Total Holdings to Over 17,100 BTC
Metaplanet (3350), a Tokyo-based firm, has increased its bitcoin holdings by 780 BTC, bringing its total stash to 17,132 BTC — the largest among public companies outside the United States. At current market prices, the firm’s bitcoin reserves are worth nearly $2 billion.
According to a filing released Monday, Metaplanet acquired the additional BTC at an average price of ¥17.5 million ($118,176) per coin.
The company tracks shareholder value using a custom metric called BTC Yield. From July 1 to July 28, BTC Yield stood at 22.5%. For the second quarter ending June 30, it reached 129.4%, a notable increase from 95.6% in Q1.
Since shifting to a bitcoin-centric treasury model inspired by MicroStrategy (MSTR), Metaplanet has accumulated its 17,132 BTC at an average cost of $99,732 per coin.
Shares of Metaplanet rose 5% to close at ¥1,240 on Monday, outperforming Japan’s Nikkei 225, which declined 1.1%.
